Local floods in Backbarrow Cumbria November 2009.
These floods were wide spread around Cumbria and caused a lot of distress and pain to many people. the above photos are just one place these happened and show a Hotel which was damaged by the flood waters coming over the bridge as can be seen in the middle and bottom pictures and a closer view of the bar area in the top picture which shows the water coming over the first floor level and into the lower bar area of which just the top third of the windows can still be seen.
This is only one small part of these floods many homes were wrecked and hundreds of people displaced in areas around Cumbria mainly in the towns of Ulverston, Workington and Cockermouth.
Some would ask why does GOD allow this sort of suffering, and in recent days we hear of the terrible earthquake in Haiti, with many thousands dead.

Bible in the lakes.org
Religion in the lakes.
ASK QUESTIONS, THIS IS WHAT THIS SITE IS ABOUT, SEEK THE ANSWERS FOR YOURSELF.
Many have found poetic inspiration in these parts and many have found a peace in the beauty of the landscape and made their home here, and just as there have been people living in these tranquil and inspirational settings for many thousands of years, so religion has been around in these parts just as long, we see the evidence at such places as Castle Rig stone circle and other prehistoric monuments, we also see chapels and churches built through the ages till today we are surrounded by monuments to religion through the ages.
In the lakes for many hundreds of years now the dominant religious thought and belief has been Christianity and on this site we want to continue this history and encourage those who are perhaps looking for a sense of identity with the scenery and tranquility of the landscape, to seek for a closer contact with God and His son Jesus and explore the context of the purpose of God in our lives and what Gods purpose is with this beautiful part of the world and with Mankind.
This site will look then at these things and consider from the word of God, as found in the BIble just what Gods purpose is with the world around us and to look at what His purpose is with Us and what part we could play in the overall scheme of Gods Plan and Purpose.
To this end we have established this site to promote discussion on various relevant topics for today and what part Christian religion has for us and the source of that religion as found in the BIble.
We might ask does this book have a relevant message for today or is it just a book of stories with a supposed moral theme?
If we call ourselves “CHRISTIAN” for example where do we go to find information on our beliefs? do we look into this book or do we just follow tradition handed down from our parents or local minister?
Bible in the lakes.org seeks to promote discussion on all aspects of what the Bible says about faith and living life in todays society, and to link up what the Bible teaches about Gods plan for this earth and mankind up on it, not just in these beautiful and inspirational surroundings but wherever we live.
please look through the statements in the rest of this site and e- mail any questions to “windmeet@btinternet.com” we will try and send answers through this site as soon as possible.
Please be aware that at no time will you be asked for money or donations or commitment of any sort and will not be contacted unless you request it.
There is no commercial sponsorship or paid ministry attached to this site, we would only ask that you read the Bible alongside anything that may be said or promoted through this site and prayerfully seek Gods guidance through his son Jesus.
May God bless you in the reading of His word.

The prospect of a clear understanding of the Bible may be somewhat daunting to some people. It is even true that some people regard the relevance of the Bible of little importance to their Christian lives today.
It is hoped that as a result of the effect of this and other insertions to this site, some may develop a serious interest in the Bible and ultimately adopt one of the study courses available and then take up a regular daily study of this wonderful collections of writings.
What is the Bible?
The Bible was "penned" by more than forty individual writers amongst whom were Kings, priests, prophets, farmers poets, fishermen, a doctor and a man who made tents.
Whilst just a few of these writers were contemporary with each other, most of them were separated from one another not only geographically, but by many hundreds of years in history.
The Bible has been described as "The greatest thing this world affords" Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was told when she was presented with a copy of the Bible, "This is the Royal Law, these are the lively oracles of God".
A Valuable translation
The development of the printing press in the fourteenth century contributed largely to the translation of the Bible, and soon after it was illegal to produce or even own a Bible. Many people have dies so that an English translation of the Bible should be produced. The last words of William Tyndale who was executed in 1536 for translating the Bible into English were these, "Lord open the King of England's eyes".
The Bible is a Miracle of today. It has been produced by the influence of God's Spirit upon those people to which we have referred (see 2 Peter 21 verse 21). As Christians we honour both God and ourselves in reading this book daily so that we can know God and the Lord Jesus Christ ( see John 17 verse 3).
Can we trust the Bible?
Yes we can. Although it has been written by such a variety of people, over such a long period of time, there is one consistent theme which runs throughout it's chapters. There are no contradictions in the Bible as some people suppose, the inconsistencies lie within ourselves. When we read the Bible carefully, the supposed contradictions will disappear. The Bible contains history and prophecy it has been supported by the archeological activities and by what one person has call, "undesigned co-incidences". Yet the Bible will support itself.. The phrase "Thus saith the Lord" ( which occurs more than 400 times in it's pages) has authority. Some of the most stimulating areas of study can be derived from those chapters which contain catalogues of names some of which we might find difficult to pronounce. The Bible records the history of a people who naturally, speaking would have disappeared from the world scene many years ago, as have the Babylonians, the Assyrians, the Hittites and the Moabites.
Of the Jews God has said "You are my witnesses" (Isaiah 43 v 10). Although there have been may attempts to destroy world Jewry, the Bible tells of their ultimate preservation " you only have I known above all families of the earth" ( Amos 2 v 2) yet the Bible records their failings, their faults and their wrongdoings. It doesn't hide anything yet God's purpose concerning these people stands.
Jesus Christ himself whilst in discussion with a Samaritan woman said "salvation is of the Jews" (John chapter 4).
Salvation
This is what the Bible is all about. Timothy was reminded "from a Child you have known the Ho;y scriptures which are able to make you wise unto salvation" (2 Tim 3 v 16) . Some people see he Bible as some kind of unsolvable puzzle.,but this is why Christadelphians have created this site. They can also provide study courses to help enquires to unravel the Bible's message from the many confusing forms of religion that exist about us.
God has allowed that it's message can be understood by a child in it's simplicity, but it can also provide some deep thoughts for mature minds. If we allow ourselves time to regard the Bible may seriously, we like Timothy, can become "wise unto salvation"" through Jesus Christ. We shall see that Jesus Christ is the central theme throughout both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. We shall also see that this book is truly the most precious thing this world affords. So then we may ask ourselves this, can we afford NOT to read and study this "the Lively oracles of God"
